ROLE OF THE INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY CENTRE

Headed by: Joseph M. Nyakoni

Located at KIRDI's Headquarters in South 'C', the ICT Centre is responsible for the implementation of the institutional ICT Plan. It is expected that in implementing the Plan, the Centre’s roles shall be to: - 

  • Provide and manage ICT infrastructure services – network, broad user support, training, high performance computing, mass storage, administrative systems and information services;
  • Establish standards and protocols to maintain efficient, secure, reliable ICT services within and outside the Institute;
  • Develop and promulgate policies for the efficient purchasing and management of information technologies;
  • Liaise with senior management on their ICT needs to provide advice on the potential of ICT to meet those needs;
  • Support initiatives to research programmes;
  • Contribute through ICT to the Institute’s outreach efforts.

 The center's core functions, therefore, can be broadly categorized into the following 3 sub-divisions:

  • Provide technical assistance to the institute's staff under ICT Operations
  • Participate in ICT Research activities / innovation at the institute
  • Manage the institute's Software Incubation program housed in the ICT Center
